Homemaker's Journal: Monday, January 4, 2016

One of my goals this year is to document our lives a little bit better. Keeping a journal has always been a challenge for me, and not something I grew up doing. Posting something positive on a Monday may help me look forward to the rest of the week.

THE WEATHER THIS WEEK...

Sunny, cold and breezy. Highs for the day are in the low 40's. We got snow flurries this afternoon. Tomorrow will be very cold with temperatures in the 20's and 30's. Rain is expected toward the end of the week with temperatures in the mid-60's.

AROUND THE HOME...

The Christmas tree came down last night after the children went to bed. The husband spotted a few brown spots and told me not to turn the tree lights on anymore. Without being able to enjoy the pretty lights, the tree is of no use to me so I took it down. My 3-year-old, George, was not pleased with this and sobbed on his bed for an hour, crying out about how mommy is throwing the Christmas tree into the trashcan and how Christmas is over and how it makes him so sad. It was pitiful and I couldn't help but chuckle.

AGENDA FOR TODAY...

I need to renew our library books so that I will not need to make a special trip to return them. After a short vacation over Christmas, Bridget will begin her homeschool studies again today. The older children have gymnastics this afternoon. Tonight's dinner calls for "roasted" bell peppers. I do not have a gas stove and do not feel like firing up our charcoal grill just for 4 bell peppers, so I am thinking I will attempt to use the broiler to achieve the "charred" affect.

A FAVORITE QUOTE FOR TODAY...

"Homemaking is surely in reality the most important work in the world. What do ships, railways, mines, cars, government, etc. exist for except that people may be fed, warmed, and safe in their own homes? ... The homemaker's job is one for which all other's exist."
C. S. Lewis

PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK...

I hope for a successful homeschool week. Dance classes do not start back until next week, so aside from a quick trip to the grocery store, I hope to be staying at home. I hate running errands when it is freezing cold outside. There is a lot to do around the house, as to be expected with a family of five.

I really need to finish up plans for our new house and submit them to the builder. My husband keeps changing things with the master bathroom (he cannot make up his mind on whether or not he wants a tub) and now I have revamped our kitchen. I think the builders hate us by now.

I have also made a goal this year with my 6-year old daughter, Bridget, in reading a very special and sacred book to her. It is far above her level of understanding but I am hoping that the spirit will assist her. She is very excited.

  1. I loved this! What a great way to journal! I may have to copy it! And I'm so impressed with your menus. I need to copy those too. I haven't done anything creative or new in a couple of months. I'm at the library now, so I'll be checking out some cookbooks! Thanks for inspiring me!
